UCSD Resources!
Let’s face it, Zoom University can be tiring. It can get hard to keep track of all the midterms, assignments, finals, homework, and group projects. Stress can get the best of us so it’s important to stay connected and make use of the resources available!
Having trouble understanding course material or looking for a group to study with? Try checking out the Academic Achievement Hub! Called AAH for short, the Academic Achievement Hub is there to help with tutoring and studying for your classes. If you’re struggling in math, chemistry, physics, biology, economics, or statistics, make sure to either sign up for the SI study group (schedule for Winter 2021 available here) or book an appointment for online content tutoring.
UCSD’s Counseling and Psychological Services
With the pressures of finals adding to the stress of learning during an ongoing pandemic, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and at an all time low. If you need someone to talk to, try reaching out to UCSD’s Counseling and Psychological Services, or CAPS. All counseling services are culturally-sensitive and confidential, and you can book an appointment by calling (858) 534–3755 or going to their Central Office and requesting to schedule a first-time appointment.
UCSD Recreation (online fitness activities)
Ever heard of the phrase “Healthy body, healthy mind?” It’s been scientifically proven that exercise helps to improve mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function. Although with COVID going on, it might be difficult to perform physical activity outside, UCSD’s Recreation center (REC for short) is offering a multitude of live fitness sessions, so you can still get your daily grind in! Check out their schedule to see if there’s any online fitness activities that pique your interest, or even follow along with their playlist of home workouts
Outreach Coordinator Events (mentor program, trivia nights, others)
There’s a few mentor programs at UCSD that help to ensure you have a smooth transition into college life. Students part of the Preuss School can participate in the Preuss Mentor Program by filling out a mentee application. The Jacobs School of engineering also has a mentoring program for both undergraduates and transfer students.
ILead workshop
Looking to develop your leadership and communication abilities? Check out iLead, a workshop program that allows students to choose from a variety of different sessions that align with their individual interests and schedule. Students receive stamps for attending iLead workshops, and earning 10 stamps allows you to receive a validation on your Co-Curricular Record! Find the schedule of workshops here.
Cognitive Science Study Group
The Cognitive Science Study Group, or CSSG, is a student organization where students taking Cognitive Science courses can meet peers sharing similar interests and share study strategies for both core and elective cognitive science major classes. There’s also a discord available for all Cognitive Science students.
